At Bhumi Ashram, the first and foremost priority is to provide a safe and dignified shelter to elderly people who have been left alone, abandoned, or found in helpless conditions. Many of them are discovered on the streets, bus stands, or outside hospitals, suffering without food, medicine, or even a roof over their heads.
Our ashram becomes their new home, where they are welcomed with love, respect, and a sense of belonging. Each resident is given a clean bed, proper clothing, and a secure living space. Unlike the feeling of isolation they faced earlier, here they live in a family-like atmosphere where fellow residents, caregivers, and volunteers share their joys and sorrows.
The environment of Bhumi Ashram is designed not just for survival, but for living with dignity. Every corner of the ashram reflects care – from hygienic dormitories and common halls to peaceful areas for rest and meditation. Elderly people who had once lost hope find a new reason to live when they feel cared for and valued.
For us, shelter is not just about providing four walls; it is about restoring human dignity, emotional security, and a sense of belonging to those who were once forgotten by society. donations center donetion donating food
At Bhumi Ashram, we believe that good health is the foundation of a dignified life, especially for the elderly who often suffer from multiple health issues. Most of the residents who arrive at the ashram are in fragile conditions – some are weak due to malnutrition, while others are battling chronic illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, respiratory problems, or age-related disabilities. To ensure their well-being, comprehensive medical care is one of the strongest pillars of our service.
We conduct regular health check-ups so that every resident’s medical condition is monitored carefully. A dedicated panel of doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals visit the ashram routinely to provide consultation, treatment, and follow-up care. For emergencies and advanced treatments, we collaborate with nearby hospitals and specialists who extend their support either free of cost or at highly subsidized rates.
Free medicines are provided to all the residents as per their prescription. We maintain proper medical records of each individual to ensure continuity in their treatment. Special attention is given to bedridden residents who require round-the-clock nursing and physiotherapy support.
In addition to treatment, preventive healthcare is a key focus at Bhumi
At Bhumi Ashram, we understand that caring for the elderly goes far beyond providing food and shelter. Many of our residents have not only lost their families but have also endured years of neglect, loneliness, and emotional pain. When they arrive, most of them are carrying deep scars of abandonment and rejection. For this reason, emotional healing and mental well-being form one of the most important aspects of our mission.
We strive to create an atmosphere where the elderly feel loved, respected, and valued. Our caregivers and volunteers interact with them daily, not as patients or dependents, but as family members. This human connection helps restore their self-confidence and sense of belonging. Regular group discussions, storytelling, and friendly conversations help them relive happy memories and share their life experiences, which gives them a renewed purpose.
To nurture their minds and souls, we organize activities like bhajans, kirtans, prayers, meditation, and yoga. These spiritual and cultural practices bring peace, calmness, and a sense of inner strength. For those who are not inclined towards spiritual activities, we encourage hobbies such as painting, singing, reading, or light gardening, which bring joy and mental stimulation.
At Bhumi Ashram, we firmly believe that true change in society can only happen when communities come together with compassion. While our staff and caregivers play an important role in daily operations, it is the involvement of volunteers and community members that adds warmth, energy, and sustainability to our mission.
We encourage people from all walks of life – students, professionals, doctors, homemakers, social workers, and retired individuals – to devote their time and skills in service of the elderly. Volunteers assist in multiple ways: some help in feeding the residents, others organize cultural and recreational activities, while medical professionals often provide free consultations and treatments. Every act of kindness, whether big or small, creates a lasting impact on the lives of our residents.
Community engagement is also fostered through campaigns such as “One Plate Donation”, where people sponsor a meal for the elderly, and “One Day Service”, where families or corporate teams spend a day at the ashram serving food, interacting with residents, and learning the value of compassion. These initiatives not only support the daily needs of the ashram but also instill a sense of social responsibility among participants.
Educational institutions are actively involved as well. Schools and colleges organize visits for their students, giving young minds a chance to interact with the elderly.
